It was a bad start to the week for residents in the greater Suva-Nasinu area as they woke up to dry taps yesterday.
Timaima Sokia of Naveiwakau, Nasinu, said she had to fetch water from a relative’s house in Laqere for her household needs.
Water Authority of Fiji chief operating officer Seru Soderberg said the cause of water supply disruptions was a massive landslide at the inlet to the Wainibuku Reservoir last Sunday.
He said it dislocated the 600mm and 450mm pipelines “causing significant damage and will take some time to safely repair”.
“We kindly request our customers to please bear with us while these critical repairs are being carried out and we assure you that we are doing what we can, as urgently as possible,” he said.
“Water carting trucks have been deployed to provide water to our affected customers during this time so please contact our National Contact Centre on 3346777 or short code 5777 (all mobile networks) for water carting assistance.”
Areas affected by the water disruptions included Makoi, Nepani, Valelevu, Caqiri, Lokia, Nadawa, Kalabu, Caubati Koro, Tacirua East, Kinoya Rd, Vatuwaqa, Domain, McGregor Rd, Sakoca, upper Khalsa, Princes Rd, areas in Colo-i-Suva.
