Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has capped a landmark visit to Fiji by overseeing the signing of two historic agreements aimed at strengthening bilateral ties, receiving Fiji’s highest national honour and opening a new skills training hub in Suva.

Mr Albanese joined Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka to sign the Ocean of Peace Alliance, also known as the “Veitacini Treaty”, and the Fiji-Australia Vuvale Union Treaty at the State House before the President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu.

Mr Albanese was later conferred the Companion of the Order of Fiji, the country’s highest national honour, in recognition of his contribution to strengthening Fiji-Australia relations.

Mr Albanese also officially opened the Pacific Australia Skills Hub in Walu Bay, a facility expected to boost technical and trade training to support Fiji’s infrastructure and workforce development.
