THE Fiji Bitter Service Sevens in Labasa will continue on January 22–23, 2027, with organizers hoping to surpass the 30 teams that competed in the previous tournament. The competition will mark its fifth year since its establishment continuing its focus on developing rugby talents in the northern division while creating economic opportunities for the local community.
Labasa sevens representative Sunia Varani said the tournament had delivered positive impacts both on and off the field, with on field impacts evidential on players joining the extended squad for the national team.
“In Labasa, rugby sevens has been going well, and has contributed to developing players and having them included in the extended squad for the national team,” Varani said.
He also added the tournament also played an important role in supporting local businesses and generating income for the local community.
“It also boosts local businesses and generates income,” he said
The tournament has become an opportunity for players to showcase their abilities, gain valuable competition experience and attract attention from those involved in the development of rugby in the country.
With 30 teams participating in the previous edition, organisers are optimistic that next year’s competition will draw an even bigger field.
Varani said they hoped more teams would register and be part of the fifth edition as the tournament continued to grow.
He also called on rugby supporters and fans to come out in numbers and support the teams throughout the two-day competition.
The January tournament is expected to bring together players, supporters and visitors, providing an opportunity to celebrate the sport while contributing to business activity in Labasa.
