Strengthening cooperation between sugarcane farmers, mill operators and the Government was the focus of Assistant Minister for Agriculture, Waterways and Sugar Industry Inosi Kuridrani’s visit to Lautoka and the Rarawai mill in Ba during the current harvesting season.

The visit saw Mr Kuridrani meet with sugarcane growers to hear their concerns, assess operations on the ground and encourage collaboration across the industry as crushing continues.

He acknowledged the resilience of farmers who have continued to produce cane despite ongoing challenges and said their commitment should be recognised.

“Farmers have shown great dedication in difficult times, and my role is to listen, understand, and look for solutions that support their efforts while strengthening the industry as a whole,” Mr Kuridrani said.

During his visit to the Rarawai mill, the Assistant Minister observed crushing operations and met with mill staff and industry stakeholders. He stressed the importance of timely harvesting to maintain cane quality and maximise growers’ returns.
