FIJI Kulas is embracing a new era as preparations intensify for FIFA International Friendlies in Hong Kong next month.
The Hong Kong tour marks the first overseas assignment under the newly appointed head coach Nicola Demaine.
With 22 players currently in camp, Demaine said the tour is an important step in the team’s preparations for the 5th Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) Prime Minister’s Cup.
“We’ve got 22 in camp right now, and I’ll be taking 22 players over to Hong Kong,” Demaine said.
The team features a strong core of experienced players alongside two new inclusions as Fiji builds towards to host the MSG tournament in September.
Demaine said the tour would provide valuable international exposure and a chance to test Fiji against improving Asian opposition.
“We want to compete and show we can compete in Asia, but it’s also about building combinations, giving players experience and embedding our style of play,” she said.
US-based goalkeeper Aliana Vakaloloma will link up with the squad overseas, while local players continue balancing Women’s Super League commitments with national duties.
The Fiji coach said camp preparations had been positive, with no major injury concerns and players eager for the challenge ahead.
“Hong Kong will be tough, but it’s a great opportunity to measure ourselves and continue growing as a team,” Demaine said.
The Fiji Kulas two upcoming FIFA International Friendlies matches are scheduled for June 3 and June 6.
