APISAI Koroisau will draw on his wealth of experience when he leads the Fiji Bati at the 2026 Rugby League World Cup, marking his fourth appearance at the world cup.
The Wests Tigers hooker is one of Fiji’s most experienced international league players, having represented the Bati at the 2013, 2017 and 2022 World Cups.
His appointment as captain gives Fiji an experienced leader as the side prepares to face some of the strongest teams in international rugby league.
Born in Sydney, Koroisau made his NRL debut for South Sydney Rabbitohs in 2014. He was part of the Rabbitohs side that won the premiership that year, beginning a career that has since included success at several leading clubs.
He later joined the Penrith Panthers, where he established himself as one of the competition’s leading hookers. During his time with the Panthers, he won three NRL premierships and played in four consecutive grand finals.
Koroisau also represented New South Wales in State of Origin, adding to his experience at the highest level of the game.
Since joining Wests Tigers in 2023, he has continued to provide leadership and direction, serving as captain of the club.
His experience will be important for Fiji as the Bati seek to progress through a challenging Pool A campaign against the Cook Islands, Australia and New Zealand.
Fiji reached the semi-finals of the 2017 World Cup, a significant achievement for the national side. The Bati will be looking to produce another strong campaign, with Koroisau’s knowledge of the tournament expected to be valuable.
As he prepares for his fourth World Cup, Koroisau will have another opportunity to lead Fiji’s challenge and help guide the next generation of Bati players on the international stage.
