It was a historic moment for the Kadavu women’s team as they clinched the Royal Tea Ranadi title by defeating Cakaudrove 17-15 at Lawaqa Park yesterday.
In a closely contested match, the Kadavu women displayed exceptional defensive prowess, preventing the Cakaudrove team from extending their lead in the second half and securing victory by the final whistle.
Expressing her emotions and excitement at the outcome, Kadavu Rugby Union president and Minister for Women, Children, and Social Protection, Lynda Tabuya, reflected on the journey leading up to this achievement.
“Kadavu Rugby Union was formed last year in December we had no time to think or plan it was straight to the Vanua Cup including our women’s team. It’s been a long journey of 16 weeks, these women were strong together so we are looking at the promotion relegation round which is next but today it’s a great victory for Kadavu especially for the people of Kadavu and hopefully it will unite us a province to bring our chiefs together to support our women,” Tabuya said.
Tabuya thanked Fiji Rugby Union for scheduling the women’s final in between the U20 match and senior men’s, noting the enthusiastic crowd support.
“There was a big crowd here cheering the team on and i also want to thank the sponsors Royal Tea and Vodafone,” she added.
Cakaudrove won the under-20 title beating Taveuni 23-7.
