Italian tourist William Paradiso was among many other international guests from resorts in the Yasawa Islands who watched the first Skipper Cup match at Nacula in Yasawa on Saturday.

It was a historic moment as Yasawa hosted Namosi in the men’s, women’s and under-20 competitions.

Paradiso, 25, who has been in the country for more than a month, said he enjoyed watching the Fijian rugby flair.

Being a rugby player himself in Italy, he described the atmosphere on Nacula as one he did not expect to see, as many people turned up to support their team.

“There are a lot of people here watching the game,” he said.

“All the games were played at high standard, even the women’s teams.

“It was good to see teams playing high level of rugby.

“In Italy, I play rugby so I know the rugby rules. And we admire how Fijians play the game.”
