The president of the International Olympic Committee, Thomas Bach, is in the country to participate in the Oceania National Olympic Committee (ONOC) annual general assembly at Sofitel.

Bach expressed his delight at being back in Fiji, stating he feels very much at home and is particularly pleased to attend this general assembly where he has the opportunity to meet with all the National Olympic Committees of the region under the exemplary leadership of Dr Robin Mitchell.

He highlighted one of the main agendas of the meeting which is the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics.

“I could feel the dynamics and determination from the NOCs to drive the Olympics movement forward in the region to prepare for a successful Olympic Games with many successful athletes from the region,” he added.

He reiterated the importance of upholding the Olympics values of excellence, respect and friendship
