FIJI business owners are seeking stronger peer networks to share challenges, exchange experience and build relationships beyond traditional business networking.
The shift was highlighted at the inaugural Founders Table that brought together 25 founders and business owners at Harvest Restaurant, Crowne Plaza Nadi last Friday.
Organised by Mydesk Launchpad Community, the dinner was designed to provide entrepreneurs with a smaller setting for open discussions on business, leadership and the challenges of running an enterprise.
Mydesk Launchpad Community founder Dipti Sharma said the fully booked event reflected the need for meaningful connections among business owners.
“As founders, business owners and leaders, we are all looking for more than just opportunities to exchange business cards,” Ms Sharma said.
“We are looking for genuine connections, meaningful conversations and a community where we can learn from one another.”
Ms Sharma said entrepreneurship could be a lonely journey, with business owners often responsible for making difficult decisions and managing challenges that others might not understand.
She said the Founders Table was deliberately structured differently from larger networking events.
“It is about sitting at the same table.
“It is about having real conversations, sharing experiences, talking about the wins but also being honest about the challenges.”
Business leaders from tourism, medical services, retail, hospitality, education and technology attended the dinner.
Mydesk Launchpad Community was established to provide founders and entrepreneurs with a support network beyond conventional networking opportunities.
She said valuable business relationships could develop through informal conversations rather than formal meetings.
“Sometimes, the most powerful opportunities don’t happen in a boardroom, they happen around a table.”
The Founders Table was the community’s first event of its kind, with indications it would continue.
