The Fiji Revenue and Customs Service (FRCS) has reaffirmed its commitment to strong border enforcement following the interception of prohibited substances aboard the cruise vessel Norwegian Sun.
The seizure was made after FRCS Customs officers, acting on credible intelligence, conducted a targeted search of a passenger’s cabin.
The operation led to the discovery of illicit substances, and the passenger was immediately referred to the Fiji Police Force for further investigation.
The individual has since been formally charged and penalised in court under Fiji’s laws, highlighting the country’s zero-tolerance approach to drug-related offences.
FRCS has not divulged what illegal substance was seized and what penalty was imposed on the person. Details on when the raid was conducted was also not provided. As per data from Marine Traffic today, Norwegian Sun is currently sailing from American Samoa to Cook Islands.
“This interception reflects the vigilance and professionalism of our border enforcement teams. FRCS remains unwavering in its duty to protect Fiji’s borders and uphold the integrity of our customs operations,” said FRCS Chief Executive Officer, Udit Singh.
He further reminded all travellers to adhere to national laws and customs regulations, adding that the Service will continue to work diligently to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all communities in Fiji.
