Australia’s Governor-General David Hurley will begin his historic first State visit to Fiji from tomorrow.

He is coming here on the invitation of the Fijian President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere and will be officially welcomed at the Nausori International Airport tomorrow evening.

His engagements in Fiji include opening the refurbished RFNS Stanley Brown Base and laying of wreath at the National War Memorial.

Australian High Commissioner to Fiji John Feakes said the governor-general would also visit Vanua Levu and meet Ratu Wiliame at his village in Naduri.

He will also open the newly-constructed Maramarua District School kindergarten.

“The trip is an opportunity for the governor-general to thank the Fijian Government for the support it provided by the RFMF during our bushfires and also more recently the floods,” Mr Feakes said.

“This trip will also acknowledge the joint operations between the Australian and Fijian armed forced to Solomon Islands and Tonga.”

Mr Hurley will be accorded a traditional Fijian welcome ceremony on Tuesday morning.
