The Housing Authority of Fiji is preparing to roll out its most extensive construction programme to date, with a total of 5,434 housing units and serviced lots planned between 2025 and 2029.
Speaking in Parliament yesterday, Minister for Housing Maciu Nalusima said the five-year output marks “the most ambitious housing programme ever undertaken,” reflecting government efforts to address the country’s growing housing demand.
“From 2025 to 2029, the Authority is set to deliver 2,873 housing units and 2,621 service lots, a combined output of 5,434,” Mr Nalusima said.
“This represents a strong and steady increase in housing supply that Fiji urgently needs.”
He outlined year-by-year projections, noting that 2025 will see 203 homes and 362 lots, while 2026 is expected to deliver 513 homes and 152 lots. The biggest push will come between 2027 and 2029, with 2,157 new homes and 2,107 lots to be completed.
Mr Nalusima said the Housing Authority has implemented clear delivery and construction schedules “to ensure transparency and predictability” as the programme scales up.
To keep homes affordable, he said the Authority has introduced standardised model house designs tailored for small and growing families. Two-bedroom options range from 71 to 72 square metres, while three-bedroom models range from 110 to 120 square metres, all designed with durability, climate resilience and energy efficiency in mind.
“These model homes cost approximately $140,000,” he said, adding that repayment terms extend up to 30 years or until retirement age.
The Minister also highlighted improved lending conditions.
“I am proud to announce that the Housing Authority is already offering the lowest lending interest rates in Fiji and has now reduced its rates even further—with zero deposit,” he said.
“This bold step is aimed at making mortgage financing more affordable and within reach for more Fijian families.”
