The construction of the Vualiku Hotel is expected to address the shortage of rooms in Labasa, says Minister for Trade Manoa Kamikamica.

Mr Kamikamica said the rooms shortage was evident during the Fiji Day national celebrations held at Subrail Park, that led to some civil servants sharing rooms.

He said the project was a step towards realising Labasa’s potential as a hub for tourism, hospitality, and economic growth.

“A $10 million investment created 13 years ago by Vcorp Limited director and his wife Vinesh and Rachel Dayal with the tribe of Matasawa is finally taking shape with approved plans at hands,” Mr Kamikamica said.

The project will feature a double storey building with 40 rooms, swimming pool and restaurant and an additional recreational activity.

It will also have a 500 square-metre conference facility in the hope to attract more national conferences to the north.

He said the business promoted iTaukei empowerment, aligning with the Dayal’s principal objectives and supporting the Labasa Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s efforts to encourage development.

“The business redefines landowner and business partnerships with direct and indirect benefits.”

He said the project was expected to be completed by the end of 2025.
