Homicide investigation launched in Auckland city

Update: 12:51PM AUCKLAND Police have launched a homicide investigation after a man’s body was found in a stairwell at an address on Great North Road in Western Springs late last night.

Emergency
services were called at approximately 11pm and Police were notified shortly
after.

Detective
Inspector Scott Beard said the victim suffered a violent attack that had caused
fatal injuries.

“We
are in the very early stages of our investigation and are still in the process
of identifying the victim but believes it to be a 69-year-old man who lived at
the address,” Detective Inspector Beard said.

He
said Police were now conducting a scene examination and it would take some
time.

“We
have recovered CCTV footage and are now looking to locate the man pictured who
we believe can assist us with our enquiries.”

Detective
Inspector Scott Beard said a number of detectives were working on this
investigation and were following positive lines of enquiry.

“We
want to assure our community that we undertaking a thorough investigation to
establish what had happened.

“We
are asking the public if they have any information, which can assist us in
identifying the man pictured, to please contact us as soon as possible.”
