Two home Test matches are lined-up for the Fijiana 15s team which would potentially auger well for the team’s world ranking.
Fiji Rugby Union’s high performance manager women, Alana Thomas confirms the national women’s teams will be playing two Tests at home after the Oceania Women’s Championship this month.
“We face Japan starting June 14 with the Test match here in Suva and then we play in Lautoka on June 20,” she said.
“It’s great to have two home test matches for all our families and friends that have supported these players for the last couple of years to come and watch them pull on the white jersey on home soil.”
These Tests will have an impact on Fijiana’s current ranking.
“The more Test matches we play, the opportunity we have to increase our ranking.
“Currently we are sitting at 17th in the world, Japan is on 11th.
“Its going to be a really good Test for us. Samoa, I think is on 15th so again playing and winning these test matches, getting opportunities will increase our world ranking.
“By 2025 we want to be starting to push into that top 10 of the world which I think we are more than capable of with the talent that we have in the squad now but also with the talent we’ve got in the Marama, Ranadi and our schools competitions starting,” she added.
Thomas added that this year they were looking at a total of nine Test matches which could be the most played by Fijiana in a year in their history.
