The Korolevu Health Centre cannot cater for two districts in the Nadroga-Navosa Province.

This was the lament by Komave district spokesman Jonathan Emannuel during a talanoa session with the Prime Minister at Nasigatoka Village this week.

He said the health centre situated along the Queens highway was looking after villages from the districts of Komave, Korolevu-i-Wai and villages on the outskirts of Serua.

Mr Emannuel said the health centre needed to be expanded to be able to serve villages from these communities.

“One of our main concerns is the mortuary,” he said.

“When someone passes away from our districts, we should be able to keep them at the health centre.

“We have two districts with more than 10 villages, not including the villages from Serua. When our people get sick, the first place they go to is Korolevu.

“Our plea is for the health centre to be expanded and have more services like a mortuary available.”

Responding to Mr Emmanuel’s concern’s, Health Minister Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete said the ministry was aware of the challenges faced by staff members at the health centre. “We have been approached by your elders who also raised similar concerns,” he said.

The Health Minister explained that their current priority was health services on Vatulele.

He said once they completed their work on Vatulele, their team would then travel to Nukuilau, which also needs ministerial attention.

Dr Waqainabete said that after Nukuilau, they would then be able to focus on Korolevu Health Centre.
