McDonald’s Fiji Drua Women captain Kolara Lomani believes her side’s improved start laid the foundation for their impressive 42-25 victory over the Brumbies in their Super W clash at 4R Stadium yesterday.
After an inconsistent opening performance in the previous round, Lomani said the team made it a priority to improve the opening stages of the match.
“We worked on what we missed out on last week, which was our first 10 to 20 minutes of the game, especially our physicality and collision work,” she said.
“The girls brought that into the game. We went into halftime, regrouped and came back stronger in the second half.”
The Drua held their nerve despite the Brumbies fighting back to level the scores at halftime and threatening again in the second spell.
Lomani said the team’s composure reflected the character and growing maturity within the squad.
“We always have respect for the Brumbies girls because they always bring a good fight. Our girls stayed in the contest and played right through the full 80 minutes.”
The victory gives the defending champions valuable momentum heading into their final regular-season match against the Reds next week.
Lomani said the players understood the importance of securing the win.
“We locked in during the week because this game was very important for us. Winning gives us confidence and momentum heading into our last game against the Reds next week.”
The Drua will now turn their attention to next week’s crucial clash as they continue their push in the Super W competition.
