MEMBERS of the public around Albert Park in Suva may hear loud and repeated gunfire and artillery sounds as the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) begins rehearsals for the Fiji Day Parade.

The RFMF stressed that the firing would be part of preparations for Fiji’s 56th independence anniversary celebrations and does not indicate an emergency or live firing exercise.

It said it would continue coordinating with relevant authorities to ensure the rehearsals and parade were conducted safely and in accordance with established procedures.
