A TAVUA man has been sentenced to five years and 11 months in prison, with a non-parole period of four years, for cultivating 26 cannabis plants weighing more than 13 grams and for possession of more than 114 grams of dried cannabis.
Magistrate Timoci Qalinauci sentenced Sivaniolo Delasau last week after he pleaded guilty to unlawful possession and cultivation of illicit drugs.
The court heard 114.1 grams of dried cannabis leaves and plant materials were found in Delasau’s possession. It also heard that he had cultivated 26 green plants weighed 13.050 grams.
Delasau admitted to police that he had cultivated the plants for commercial purposes and intended to sell the cannabis in Ba.
He was sentenced to five years and 11 months’ imprisonment for cultivation, with a non-parole period of four years.
He was also sentenced to 30 days’ imprisonment for possession, to run concurrently with the cultivation sentence.
The court ordered police to destroy the seized cannabis within 30 days and a destruction report to be filed with the court.
