The Ministry of Employment, Productivity and Workplace Relations has initiated a review of Fiji’s national minimum wage and sectoral wage rates, raising the possibility of further adjustments to workers’ pay.

The ministry has called for expressions of interest from suitably qualified consultants to undertake a comprehensive labour market study and analysis of existing wage rates.

The review comes after Fiji’s national minimum wage increased to $5 per hour on April 1, 2025, following a two-stage adjustment introduced by the Coalition Government.

The first increase took effect on August 1, 2024, when the minimum wage rose to $4.50 per hour, before reaching $5 in April last year.

In its public notice, the ministry said the review formed part of its ongoing commitment to promoting decent wages and fair employment conditions for all workers in Fiji.

It said an independent consultant would be engaged to conduct a comprehensive labour market research and analysis exercise and provide evidence-based recommendations on appropriate adjustments to the national minimum wage and sectoral wage rates.

The review is expected to assess existing wage arrangements and provide recommendations to guide future decisions on workers’ remuneration.

Applicants must demonstrate the necessary qualifications, experience and capacity to fulfil the requirements outlined in the ministry’s terms of reference.

The ministry said interested consultants could obtain the terms of reference from its official website.

Expressions of interest must be submitted by 4pm on November 16, 2026.
