The Government spent $39.84 million on fuel for its fleet of owned and leased vehicles between January 2023 and 2026, while receiving $2.32 million in fuel rebates over the same period.
The figures were provided by Minister for Finance, Commerce and Business Development Esrom Immanuel in response to a written parliamentary question from Opposition MP Premila Kumar, who sought a detailed breakdown of Government fuel expenditure.
The Minister said annual fuel expenditure was:
-2023: $11.32 million
-2024: $12.13 million
-2025: $10.97 million
-2026 (to date): $5.43 million
The Minister noted that fuel expenditure has shown a downward trend in recent years despite ongoing Government operations.
He also confirmed that the Government received $2.32 million in fuel rebates during the period, helping offset overall fuel costs.
The response forms part of Parliament’s scrutiny of Government expenditure and fleet management, with the Government maintaining that improved fleet oversight and fuel management measures are contributing to better cost control across ministries.
