ADVICE on whether to appeal the High Court judgment on the Commission of Inquiry report is expected to be ready by the end of the week.
Acting Attorney-General and Justice Minister Siromi Turaga said the office had only received instructions to begin its review yesterday and had yet to finalise its position.
“We just started yesterday, it’s a long judgment,” he said.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka supported the position, saying the President is looked after by the Government and that advice on whether to appeal would come from the Attorney-General’s Office.
“I have not heard from A-G,” Mr Rabuka said.
“In fact, they will instruct the President also whether to appeal or not.”
Mr Rabuka also highlighted that if an appeal is pursued, the legal costs would be borne by taxpayers because the appeal would be made in their official capacities as officers of the Government and the State.
“We are not individuals, we are appealing as officers of the Government, of the State.”
