Cema Nasau, a standout player for the Ba Women’s Football team, was honoured with the Golden Ball Award at the Digicel Fiji Women’s Inter-District Championship which concluded in Suva on Sunday.
This recognition came after a stellar performance in the final match against Labasa, where Ba emerged victorious with a score of 4-1, which was held at Fiji FA Academy ground.
The 24-year-old scored two goals with one of her goals a spectacular bicycle kick that hit the back of the net, her teammates Luisa Tamani Toakula and Elesi Tabunase also contributed goals to secure the win.
Nasau acknowledged the tough competition from Labasa but highlighted the importance of teamwork in their success.
“Our victory was a result of teamwork and determination, despite some of our players being based in Suva, we never lost hope and continued to work together towards our goal,” said Nasau.
“The coaches played a huge role in motivating and guiding us throughout the tournament, and we are grateful for their belief in our abilities.
“This win is dedicated to the memory of former Ba player Mereti Tiko, who recently passed away, we wanted to honor her legacy by giving our best on the field.
“Receiving the Golden Ball Award is truly an honor, and I am thankful for the talent and skills that I have been blessed with,” she added.
Nasau remains focused on honing her abilities and contributing more to the team’s success in the future.
“There is still room for improvement, and I am committed to honing my skills and becoming a better player with each passing day.”
She extended her gratitude to the almighty for guidance, their sponsors Digicel Fiji, and her teammates and coaches for their support and belief in the team.
