DEFEATING the dominant Papua New Guinea Orchids sparked a fire of great excitement in the Vodafone Fiji Bulikula last Sunday.
This was revealed by Bulikula captain Sereana Naitokatoka, as they set their sights on meeting France in their final pool match of the 2026 Women’s Rugby League World Cup today.
Naitokatoka relayed how the victory left her and her teammates feeling ecstatic as they thrashed the Orchids 40-4 on their home turf in Port Moresby.
“Our first win last week, especially in our debut, it was unreal,” she recalled.
The Bulikula were up against a competitive Orchids team who wanted to impress their home crowd in a curtain raiser before their male counterparts, the Kumuls, faced Toa Samoa after their match.
When the dust settled after both matches, both PNG sides lost in respective thrashings with the Kumuls beaten 6-64.
Meanwhile, Naitokatoka recalled the Bulikula leaving the Santos National Football Stadium in Port Moresby feeling a divine presence amongst them.
“It was like a whole new joy inside of the girls hearts especially when we were singing after the game,” she said.
“You could feel the power of God inside our changing room as we praised Him. And yes, it was incredible.”
The Bulikula face France at 2.20pm today at the Cbus Super Stadium on the Gold Coast in Australia.
