The Bhakti Kirtan Sandhya Nite fundraising event organised by the Fiji Community of California was held at King Charles Park in Nadi on Saturday.
Officiating at the event, Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection Sashi Kiran acknowledged the Fiji Community of California for taking their time to travel to Fiji and commit themselves to a worthy cause.
“We know that you are all well-established in the United States, but you continue to give with your heart back to Fiji,” she said.
“I want to thank you all for your continued support to the vulnerable in Fiji.”
South African-born Hindu devotional artist Preven Moodley entertained the crowd during the special community fundraising event.
All proceeds from the event were given to Treasure House Christian Children’s Home and Valelevu HART Nursing Home.
Fiji Community of California secretary Nitin Chand said they had been doing food-drive fundraising in the United States to assist them financially.
“We sell BBQ, fish and chips, palau once in two months just to raise money,” Mr Chand said.
“So, our group got together, and we raised money $2000 to $3000 in every food drive.
“We collect the money and by the end of the year, for instance in 2025, we donated three pallets of diapers and this year 2026 just in the midyear we are doing this fundraiser.
“And the singer Preven Moodley, who travelled from South Africa, we paid him from the club’s expenses and that’s how we work, through food drives.”
