Fiji Girmit Council celebrated it’s annual Diwali celebrations over the weekend at the Girmit centre in Lautoka which showcased a variety of cultural activities performed by students of the centre.
Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre director, Santosh Mishra said diwali is one such occasion that unites everyone.
“I congratulate all of you for everything that you have achieved and on the occasion of Diwali I wish everyone a very happy deepawali.” he said
Fiji Girmit Council executive secretary, Selwa Nandan said Diwali was one of the most significant festivals in the Hindu calendar which is celebrated with much pomp and splendour throughout the world.
Student’s of the Girmit Centre wowed the crowd with Indian folklore songs and dances during the celebration which also included performances from Lautoka School for Special Education & senior citizens from Golden Age home as well.
