AT the heart of this event lies our collective commitment and dedication to the local tourism operators who are the lifeblood of our industry.

This was highlighted by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Civil Aviation, Tourism and Education Viliame Gavoka at the closing of the inaugural Tourism Super Week 2024 at the Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa last week.

With the theme ‘Thriving on the Edge: A Journey into Sustainable Adventure’, he said it was imperative to equip local tourism operators with the tools, knowledge and resources they needed to thrive in an ever-evolving landscape.

“Through specialised training initiatives, panel debates and engaging workshops, we hope to empower our local operators and elevate their products,” Mr Gavoka said.

“By investing in your growth and development, we aim to strengthen our tourism industry as well as foster the socio-economic wellbeing of our communities.

“Your government shares your aspirations. We are committed to nurturing an ecosystem where our tourism industry can thrive not only today, or in the next few years.

“We want this industry to continue contributing to our economy, to local businesses, to jobs, to our environment and our culture. And we acknowledge the critical role that tourism plays in fostering prosperity and bolstering local enterprises and we advocate for practices that are both responsible and inclusive.”

Mr Gavoka commended the Tourism Fiji staff for putting together events such as the Tourism Super Week 2024.

“My deepest gratitude to the team at Tourism Fiji, I know it is not easy putting together events like this.

“We look forward to continued advancements through endeavours and programs pursued by Tourism Fiji.

“I would like to express my sincere thanks to our partners, whose generous contributions reflect their commitment to the advancement of our local tourism industry.

“As we conclude this enriching week, I urge each and every one of us to take forward the knowledge acquired, and the relationships forged.

“Let us be persistent in our collaborative efforts to unlock the full potential of our tourism sector for the enhancement of our nation and all who call it home.”
