Government has allocated $34.2 million to the Ministry of Policing and Communications to strengthen national security, advance policing reforms and continue Fiji’s digital transformation, with funding also earmarked to support the implementation of the proposed new Police Bill.
Minister for Policing and Communications Ioane Naivalurua announced the allocation while contributing to the 2026-2027 National Budget debate in Parliament yesterday.
“I commend the allocation of $34.2m to my ministry,” Mr Naivalurua said.
“This investment will strengthen the ministry’s ability to lead national security policy, coordinate policing reforms, and continue Fiji’s digital transformation.
“The ministry remains committed to strengthening the legal and institutional framework that supports effective, accountable, and modern policing.”
Mr Naivalurua said the budget also provided funding to review legislation, stressing that legal reforms are essential to keeping pace with changing demands.
“Strong institutions also require modern laws, and our legislation must keep pace.”
He said the funding would support the implementation of the new Police Bill, currently before the Standing Committee on Justice, Law and Human Rights.
“When enacted, this legislation will modernise policing in Fiji by strengthening accountability, improving governance, and providing a clearer framework for professional policing.”
Mr Naivalurua said the investment reflected the Government’s commitment to building stronger institutions capable of delivering effective policing while supporting broader national security and governance reforms.
