A MOTHER’S love never dies. That is why Remembrance Day is always agonising for Litiana Tuisavura. The 61-year-old says she still grieves and wishes she had spent more time with two of her sons who died while serving the military abroad.

Australia funds maritime facility

AUSTRALIA is funding the construction of a $A40 million ($F61m) to $A60m ($F91m) Maritime Essential Services Centre in Lami. Australian High Commissioner to Fiji John Feakes said the facility would incorporate the Republic of Fiji Navy Headquarters, Suva Radio Coastal Station (Coast Watch), Rescue Coordination Centre and the Fiji Hydrographic Service.

School curriculum concerns

EDUCATION Minister Premila Kumar says the ministry has received concerns from primary schoolteachers about the curriculum being taught to lower classes. She said as a result of this, a review of early childhood education curriculum would soon be carried out by the ministry.

EOI invites companies

AUSTRALIA’S Department of Defence is inviting companies to register their interest for the construction of a $F61 million to $F92 million Maritime Essential Services Centre (MESC) in Lami. Details of the project were jointly released in November 2020 by Australian Defence Minister Linda Reynolds and her Fijian counterpart Inia Seruiratu.

AUSTRALIAN ambassador John Feakes says his government is funding the construction of a $A40 million ($F61 million) to $A60 million ($F92 million) Maritime Essential Services Centre (MESC) in Lami as part of its “commitment to supporting Fiji’s defence and security infrastructure needs over the long-term”.

Saneem responds to report

RESEARCHERS must not rely on political party statements and The Fiji Times newspaper for facts, says Registrar of Political Parties Mohammed Saneem. He made this statement during a news conference in Suva this week, while disputing the contents of a report by Sweden-based International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance, an intergovernmental organisation that supports sustainable democracy worldwide.

Police hunt

POLICE are on the hunt for a man who attacked The Fiji Times vehicle and a policeman in Nadera yesterday. A team from this newspaper was returning from an assignment when it came across the assailant standing in the middle of the road, attempting to stop vehicles travelling on the main road near Nadera, Nasinu.

Naevo confident in Flying Fijians

FORMER Flying Fijians, Fiji 7s, Auckland Blues Super Rugby and Nadi lock Apisai Naevo is confident that the Vodafone Flying Fijians can beat Wales in their Autumn Test this weekend. Naevo, who represented Fiji 34 times after making his debut in 1996 against Hong Kong, said nothing was impossible. “The boys need to believe in themselves,” he said. “Wales will be very physical because they’ll be playing in front of their own fans.I urge the Fijian boys to go out there and ‘play with pride’ and bring honour to our country. We should win by 35-20.”
