THE benefits of the AstraZeneca vaccine’s effective protection against COVID-19 far outweigh the risks. This, according to the permanent secretary for health and medical services Dr James Fong amid investigations by British and European regulators into an association between the vaccine and a rare blood-clotting disorder called “thrombosis with thrombocytopenia”.

POLICE are searching for the driver of a rental car believed to be involved in a hit and run accident in Saweni, Lautoka, yesterday morning.

A 34-year-old man is currently in custody following the seizure of green plants believed to be marijuana.

SOME residents of Lami took to the Queen’s Road yesterday to peacefully protest air pollution in the form of clinker dust that was being spilled on to the road while being carted to the cement factories.

THE Fiji Fashion Week (FFW) has noticed support and engagement from Fijian families who have recognised that FFW runways are also about boosting young people’s confidence.

Garbage storage 

RESIDENTS of Lautoka have been warned to store their garbage properly in storage bins or face a fine of close to $1000.

Maritime travellers rights 

MINISTER for Transport and acting Attorney-General Faiyaz Koya says the national consultations on the Maritime Travelers Rights held in the Western Division earlier this week have been encouraging.

FIJI’s discussions with Australia and New Zealand to establish a travel bubble is still continuing, says Minister for Trade and Tourism Faiyaz Koya.

Autism vs stigma

IT is important to change the stigma surrounding people living with autism in the society, says parent Karishma Prasad. The mother of a student living with autism said people’s understanding of the autism needed to change.

Many firsts
