“TAKE every opportunity that comes your way.”

That was the message from Fiji National University graduate Srotish Kumar, who balanced work, study and family responsibilities to complete his Certificate III in Agriculture.

Mr Kumar, a farmhand at the College of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (CAFF), graduated on Tuesday among 531 students during the FNU graduation ceremony.

He began his studies in 2024 while continuing to work full-time and completed the program last year through a flexible arrangement that allowed him to take two units per semester.

“We were given the opportunity to study while working, so I took two units each semester,” he said.

Mr Kumar said balancing employment, studies and family life was challenging and required sacrifices, particularly giving up family time to complete assignments after work.

“It is difficult working, studying and having a family at the same time, but the sacrifice was worth it.”

He credited his success to the support of his wife, two children, supervisors, lecturers and the CAFF management team.

Mr Kumar encouraged young people and working adults not to give up on education despite hardships.

“You will struggle, but the fruit of it will be sweet.”
