French-owned financial institution BRED Bank Fiji will keep investing in Fiji because it is the key stone of its development in the South Pacific.

“Fiji is at the heart of our growth story in the South Pacific. Fiji is the core of the South Pacific and for us and for our growth,” Bred Bank Fiji board chair Regis Barriac said at the grand opening of the bank’s new head office at the FHL Tower in Suva on Tuesday evening.

“We will invest to create jobs. We will invest to finance the economy and the business of Fiji. We will invest for the population,” he said.

BRED Bank Fiji chief executive officer Pierre Tastet said the bank had opened a few branches in Sigatoka and Suva, with the next big investment planned for Nadi by year-end.

“These investments reflect our commitment in Fiji and our confidence, and our commitment to deliver the service and the good to support the people and businesses in Fiji,” Mr Tastet said.

Chief guest Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka commended the bank on this milestone, and said BRED Bank’s growing network across the country was helping to bring banking services closer to communities.

While he noted the importance of access to financial services, also emphasised the need for continued investment in digital solutions to ensure those not yet digitally connected were not left behind. “Financial inclusion should mean access to banking services, to savings, appropriate finance and digital payments, and the financial knowledge that’s needed to make informed decisions in life,” Mr Rabuka said.

“BRED Bank’s expanding presence across the Central, Western, and Northern divisions demonstrates the importance of maintaining a strong national financial footprint.”
