A 21-YEAR-OLD Navua man who allegedly suffered a horrific knife attack during the Fiji Day weekend says he is still waiting for clarity on the status of the investigation, as he continues to seek justice.
Anare Tabaiwalu was left with a partially severed tongue following the alleged attack in Vakabalea, Navua, on Sunday October 11.
In an interview with The Fiji Times, Mr Tabaiwalu said the incident occurred after a disagreement involving three men he had been drinking with.
He alleged that when he attempted to escape, one of the men restrained him while another used a knife to cut his tongue.
Mr Tabaiwalu said he subsequently lost consciousness and only regained awareness later before making his way home, arriving at around 4am the following morning.
His family was shocked to find him covered in blood and immediately sought medical assistance after they did not get a favourable response from the Navua Police Station .
Mr Tabaiwalu said he understood that the men involved had been taken to the police station following the incident but claimed they were later released.
He also alleged that reconciliation had been raised as an option and that he was encouraged to withdraw his complaint.
However, he maintains that he wants the matter pursued.
“I’m not planning to drop the charges,” he said.
Despite the seriousness of his injuries, Mr Tabaiwalu said he remained uncertain about the progress of the investigation.
Police confirmed yesterday that a report of an act with intent was received, however, investigations are continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
