The Coalition Government has added about 86,000 social welfare recipients to the Public Private Partnership (‘PPP’) Free Health Scheme starting from tomorrow.

Also, Fijians in the Free Medicine Scheme and Kidney Dialysis Scheme can now also visit a doctor under the PPP scheme for medical consultation.

Social welfare recipients will need to take their cards to General Practitioners (GPs), Dental Practitioners (DPs) and Medical Labs (MLs) for treatment.

“The GPs, DPs and MLs will be required to maintain a copy of the proof of social welfare card or free medicine scheme reference number or reference number under the Dialysis Subsidy program for further verification for audit purpose.”

In a statement by the Government this is to ensure quality healthcare services is provided.

“Patients are required to bring their Social Welfare Card, Free Medicine Card, and Kidney Dialysis Approval Letter to access services at the approved clinics under the PPP scheme,” the statement read.

General Practitioners (GPs), Dental Practitioners (DPs) and Medical Labs (MLs) will be required to search for Social Welfare Card numbers for those under the Social Welfare program.

“Information on Birth Registration Number (BRN), voter registration number, date of birth, mobile number, residential address will be entered in the database or online portal by GPs, DPs and MLs.

“The GPs, DPs and MLs will be required to have a copy of the proof of social welfare card or free medicine scheme reference number or reference number under the Dialysis Subsidy program for further verification for audit purpose.”

Dependents of applicants under the three schemes will be required to complete an application form and income declaration form if their individual annual income is $30,000 or less.

Meanwhile, measures implemented from July 10, 2023 will continue to ensure control of the service provided and avoid its misuse.

Two injections per patient per visit and one scan per patient per visit will be allowed under the scheme and any additional scans, patients will need to pay.

One sugar prick test per patient per week will be covered under the scheme, two fillings per patient per visit and two extractions per patient per visit will be covered under the scheme.
