Sanjay Kaba in court this morning – ANDREW NAIDU

Former Telecom Fiji Ltd (TFL) and Amalgamated Telecom Holdings board member Sanjay Kaba has pleaded not guilty to a charge of obtaining a financial advantage of more than $700,000.

Mr Kaba appeared before Suva Magistrate Charles Ratakele this morning for the continuation of a pre-trial conference.

His bail has been extended.

The charge relates to allegations that Mr Kaba, through his company Houng Lee Kaba Jacob Ltd (HLK Jacob), submitted a bid to provide project management services for TFL’s new office and data centre project.

It is alleged that as a result, Mr Kaba obtained $766,327.22 between June 2022 and July 2023, while knowingly failing to declare his directorship in HLK Jacob Ltd, a potential conflict of interest that rendered the company ineligible for the contract.

The case has been adjourned to November 11.
