Former SODELPA General Secretary joins Unity Fiji

Unity Fiji has appointed former SODELPA General Secretary Mr Lenaitasi Duru as its new General Secretary, in a move the party says will strengthen its organisation ahead of the General Election.

The appointment was confirmed by Unity Fiji’s Executive Board and leader , who welcomed Mr Duru into the party and described him as a valuable addition to its growing political team.

Mr Duru brings an extensive academic and professional background, holding a Master of Business Administration, a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Administration, and a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in international business, agriculture, and economics.

His career spans education and multiple sectors of the economy, including work as a high school teacher, officer at the , commercial banking, private consultancy, and farming.

He is also well known in political circles for his previous role as General Secretary of SODELPA.

Unity Fiji says it conducted its own due diligence and is satisfied with both its internal research and Mr Duru’s explanation regarding the circumstances surrounding his departure from SODELPA.

In signing the contract, Mr Narube thanked Mr Duru for joining what he described as a “dynamic and growing political party,” adding that his experience would strengthen internal organisation and campaign readiness.

“I am confident that Mr Duru’s addition to the Unity Team will further boost the growing popularity of the party. I look forward to working closely with him to mount a strong campaign for the general elections,” Mr Narube said.

The appointment comes as political parties begin sharpening their structures and strategy ahead of what is expected to be a closely watched national election contest.
