After three intense rounds at the Fiji National Chess Championship, five players remain unbeaten with perfect 3/3 scores.
Veteran Candidate Master Manoj Kumar leads the standings on tie-break, followed closely by Yash Krishen Maharaj, WCM Tanvi Prasad, Rajaritha Weerasekara, and CM Rudr Prasad.
The event, sponsored by the Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre (FWCC), has drawn some of the country’s best and most promising players for nine rounds of competition.
Kumar, one of Fiji’s most experienced players, demonstrated precise control on the board to secure his third straight victory, giving him the edge on tie-breaks.
Meanwhile, WCM Tanvi Prasad continues to impress as she leads the female division, showing strong form against a competitive field.
Tournament organiser and Fiji Chess Federation General Secretary Kristy Fong said the level of play this year has been outstanding.
“It’s great to see both new and seasoned players performing so well early on,” said Fong.
“The atmosphere is competitive yet encouraging, and with six more rounds to go, anything can still happen.
“We’re especially proud to see the growing participation of women and youth in this year’s championship.”
With six more rounds left to play, the championship remains wide open. Players will be looking to build momentum in the middle rounds as they chase the national title.
The FWCC Fiji National Chess Championship concludes next Sunday, October 12, after nine rounds of competition.
