INVESTOR permit processing times will be slashed from three weeks to just five days under a new Government initiative aimed at accelerating investment approvals and boosting economic growth.

Announcing the measure during the 2026-2027 National Budget presentation yesterday, Minister for Finance Esrom Immanuel said the Ministry of Immigration and Investment Fiji had agreed to streamline the permit application process.

“Investment Fiji and the Ministry of Immigration have agreed to work together to fast-track the issuance of investor permits,” Mr Immanuel said.

“Investment Fiji will provide a pre-engagement letter to the Ministry of Immigration containing key information required to process investor permit applications.

“This initiative is expected to reduce the processing timeframe for investor permits from 21 days to a maximum of five days.”

The Finance Minister also announced that Cabinet had established a high-powered taskforce to remove approval bottlenecks that have delayed major investment projects.

He said the taskforce would serve as a coordinating body, bringing investors and approval agencies together to resolve issues quickly and improve the efficiency of Government decision-making.

“The taskforce will play a facilitative role by bringing together investors and relevant approval agencies to identify and resolve bottlenecks in a timely manner.”

He stressed that the new approach would not weaken regulatory oversight or bypass existing legal requirements.

“Rather, it will promote a more coordinated, solution-oriented and efficient decision-making process to support investment and economic growth.”

Mr Immanuel said reducing bureaucratic delays was a key part of the Government’s strategy to attract more private sector investment, improve investor confidence and create new opportunities for economic expansion.
