Thirteen students from the Navuso Agriculture Technical Institute have been selected to travel to Israel and work in the agricultural sector for 10 months.
Israeli Ambassador designate to the Pacific countries Roi Rosenblit revealed this to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Strategic Planning, National Development and Statistics Professor Biman Prasad during a courtesy visit in Suva yesterday.
Mr Rosenblit said the students would be traveling in the coming weeks as part of an internship program – ‘Learning by doing’ and will be earning a salary.
He said they would work five days a week and would one day be dedicated to learning about new agricultural technology.
He also expressed his interest to assist the Government financially with operating the embassy of Fiji in Israel if the Government decided to open its mission in Jerusalem.
Professor Biman said Jerusalem was the area of preference to establish an embassy, however, that had to be further discussed with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He also extended the Coalition Government’s interest to partner with Israel to build climate resilient infrastructure for agriculture.
He pointed out that Fiji’s tourism industry could be fragile in times like the pandemic, so agriculture had been one of the focus areas of Government’s efforts to diversify its economy.
