Fiji U23 side named for qualifiers

Nine overseas-based players have been named in the Fiji squad for the upcoming OFC Men’s Under-23 Olympic qualifiers in New Zealand.

The team is mostly made up of players from the team that represented Fiji at the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Argentina earlier this year.

Eight players from Ba have made the cut in the final squad while there’s two each from Lautoka, Rewa and Navua.

Suva, Nadi and Tailevu Naitasiri have a player each in the team.

The side left for Tahiti today.

The qualifiers will be held at Go Media Stadium in Auckland from August 27 -September 9.

Fiji is in Pool A with favourites New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, and American Samoa.

The Fiji U23 side featured at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, Brazil.

It was our only outing at the world meet.
