Fiji’s tourism industry has reached a major milestone, with annual visitor arrivals surpassing one million for the first time, according to the latest ANZ Pacific Insight report.
The report, based on Fiji Bureau of Statistics data, shows 98,522 visitors arrived in June, a 6.3 per cent increase compared to the same month last year.
Total arrivals for the first six months of 2026 reached 460,628, up 3.8 per cent year-on-year.
ANZ said visitor arrivals over the 12 months to June climbed to 1,003,233, marking the first time Fiji has exceeded the one-million visitor mark on a moving annual basis.
The report notes that tourism accounts for an estimated 40 per cent of Fiji’s gross domestic product, making visitor arrivals one of the country’s most important indicators of economic activity.
Australia remained Fiji’s largest tourism market in June, contributing 45,090 visitors or 45.8 per cent of total arrivals. New Zealand followed with 22,689 visitors, while the United States recorded 15,728 visitors and the strongest growth among the three largest markets, increasing 24.9 per cent compared with June last year.
Holidaymakers continued to dominate visitor arrivals, accounting for 79,810 visitors or 81 per cent of all arrivals during the month. Those visiting friends and relatives made up 7.1 per cent, while business travel represented 2.3 per cent of total arrivals.
The report says monthly visitor arrival data provides one of the most timely measures of economic performance and will continue to offer insight into the strength of Fiji’s visitor economy.
