The Fiji Times has reaffirmed its commitment to serving as the voice of the nation and championing freedom of expression, access to truth and the rights of every Fijian.
In his Fiji Day message, Fiji Times Pte Limited chairman Kirit Prabhudas Patel said the newspaper was humbled to have journeyed alongside the people of Fiji for more than a century and a half.
“At The Fiji Times, we remain deeply humbled to have journeyed alongside the people of Fiji throughout the years,” Mr Patel said.
“For more than a century and a half, we have remained committed to serving as the voice of the nation, championing freedom of expression, access to truth, and the right of every Fijian to be heard.”
Mr Patel, who is also chairman and chief executive officer of the Motibhai Group of Companies, said the newspaper’s longstanding “Your Voice Since 1869” message represented more than a slogan.
“‘The Fiji Times – Your Voice Since 1869’ is more than a slogan; it is a promise that has endured through generations,” he said.
“Through periods of change, challenge, and celebration, we have stood with the people of Fiji, sharing their stories, reflecting their aspirations, and supporting the principles of truth, fairness, and accountability that are essential to a vibrant democracy.”
Mr Patel said The Fiji Times would continue that commitment under the enduring spirit of “For Fiji, Ever Fiji”.
“We reaffirm our pledge to continue serving the people of Fiji with integrity and purpose,” he said.
Reflecting on Fiji’s 56th anniversary of independence, Mr Patel said every citizen had a responsibility to contribute towards the country’s success.
“Progress is achieved not by the efforts of a few, but through the collective commitment of all.”
He called on Fijians to honour the country’s past while working together towards a peaceful, prosperous and inclusive future.
“Let us honour their legacy by upholding the values they cherished and by working together to ensure an even brighter future for generations to come.”
