RAJ Sharma has resigned as the board chairman with Fiji Rice after holding the portfolio for several years.
The resignation was confirmed by Minister for Public Enterprise Manoa Kamikamica during an interview in Labasa.
“I can confirm we have received a letter from Mr Sharma,” Mr Kamikamica said.
“He had suggested he wanted to focus on other portfolios.”
Mr Sharma’s resignation comes after several years of involvement with Fiji Rice, where he had been responsible for the portfolio and its related activities.
His departure is expected to bring changes to the management of the organisation as the relevant authorities consider the next steps.
The development comes at a time when the rice industry remains an important part of Fiji’s agricultural sector, particularly in the Northern Division.
Rice farmers have continued to face challenges including production costs, weather conditions and the need to improve local production.

Mr Sharma did not comment when approached for an interview.
