It recorded 68 bookings in the Northern Division and 49 bookings in the Eastern Division.

Police said two serious accident cases were also recorded during this period.

The first case recorded in the Southern Division involving a 28-year-old electrician who was injured after he was allegedly hit by a vehicle driven by a woman along Pritam Singh Road, Tuirara in Makoi.

The driver allegedly fell asleep causing the vehicle to veer off the road resulting in the accident, Police said.

The victim remains admitted at the CWM hospital as investigations continue.

In the other separate accident, an 18-year old student is under investigation after the vehicle he was driving allegedly collided with another vehicle driven by a 53-year-old businessman along Queens Road near Viseisei, Lautoka.

Police said the suspect allegedly overtook the victim’s car while he was trying to turn into a side road resulting in the accident.

Two of the passengers travelling with the suspect were admitted at the Lautoka Hospital after sustaining injuries.

Also yesterday morning, Police said a vehicle driven by a man in his 30s veered off the road and tumbled along the Queens Road while travelling from Navua to Lautoka with four others.

Police said the woman in her 50s had been conveyed to the Nadi hospital for treatment as investigations continued.

“Road accidents can be avoided if all road users remain vigilant at all times.

“The Fiji Police Force anticipates a lot of social activities with increased movement on our roads as we enjoy our first long weekend following the easing of restrictions on gatherings.

“As such, we hope that all road users will be mindful of their safety and take necessary safety precautionary measures.”
