Fiji Parliament 2017: WAF upgrades wastewater treatment plant

This was revealed in Parliament on Wednesday by Government MP Vijay Nath who said the Water Authority of Fiji was now engaged in the augmentation and consolidation works of its biggest wastewater treatment plant in Kinoya, Nasinu.

He said the Kinoya Wastewater Treatment Plant served the Suva-Nausori corridor and would be expanded up to 150,000 equivalent population, and further upon completion of this upgrading work under the Asian Development Bank (ADB) project, the plant would be subsequently extended up to 277,000 equivalent population.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB), the Green Climate Fund (GCF), European Investment Bank (EIB) and the Government was providing financial assistance over the next three years, targeted towards water and wastewater infrastructure development, non-revenue water reduction and WAF’s capacity building. 

“WAF is prioritising on expanding the sewer coverage to urban commercial zoned areas to expedite rapid commercial developments aimed at generating economic growth for the country,” Mr Nath said. 

“A feasibility study will be undertaken in 2018 for the development of water and wastewater infrastructure in Savusavu (Vanua Levu) via a grant from the Kuwait government through the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED).”
