Efforts to expand Fiji’s export markets, strengthen local industries and attract investment were at the centre of discussions between the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Industries, Commerce and Business Development Manoa Kamikamica, and New Zealand’s High Commissioner to Fiji Greg Andrews.
The discussions took place during a courtesy visit by Mr Andrews to the Deputy Prime Minister, providing an opportunity to explore practical ways of strengthening trade and economic cooperation between the two countries.
Particular attention was given to economic diversification, improving market access for Fijian products and creating new opportunities for local businesses to participate in international trade.
Both sides exchanged views on the importance of broadening Fiji’s export base and improving the competitiveness of locally produced goods, particularly as the country continues to develop new industries and strengthen its private sector.
The meeting also explored opportunities to encourage investment, deepen commercial ties and promote greater engagement between Fijian and New Zealand businesses.
These discussions are particularly relevant to Fiji’s efforts to support local enterprises, including Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), in accessing new markets and building their capacity to compete internationally.
New Zealand remains an important economic and development partner for Fiji, with longstanding bilateral relations providing a foundation for continued cooperation in trade, investment and private sector development.
The courtesy visit also highlighted the value of maintaining regular dialogue between the two countries to identify areas where cooperation could translate into tangible commercial opportunities.
For Fiji, strengthening such partnerships remains important in supporting economic diversification, developing emerging industries and creating sustainable opportunities for businesses and communities.
Both sides reaffirmed the importance of continued engagement to advance shared priorities in trade, investment and economic development.
