The Fiji Football Association is mourning the passing of former vice-president and longtime football administrator Dr Hari Kewal, who died in Brisbane, Australia on Wednesday.

Dr Kewal was one of Fiji football’s longest-serving administrators and dedicated more than two decades to the development of the sport.

A respected dentist by profession, he served as Nadi Football Association president and held the position of Fiji FA vice-president for more than 22 years, including serving as senior vice-president.

He also chaired the National Football League Board and played a key role in football infrastructure development projects around the country.

In recognition of his contribution to the sport, Dr Kewal was elected an Honorary Member of Fiji FA during the organisation’s 83rd Congress in 2021.

Fiji FA president Rajesh Patel described Dr Kewal as a passionate servant of football whose impact on the game would always be remembered.

“Dr Hari Kewal was a dedicated administrator and passionate servant of football who contributed immensely towards the development and progress of the game in Fiji,” Patel said.

“His leadership, commitment and vision played a major role in shaping Fiji football over many years.

“He was highly respected within the football fraternity and his contribution to the sport will forever remain part of Fiji football history.”

Patel said Fiji FA extended its heartfelt condolences to Dr Kewal’s family and loved ones during the difficult time.
