The Fiji Football Association football fraternity is mourning the passing of former Fiji football representative and Fiji FA Legends Club member Henry Dyer, who died at the age of 63.

In a statement, Fiji FA president Rajesh Patel described Dyer as one of the outstanding footballers of his generation whose contribution to the development of football in Fiji would never be forgotten.

Born and raised in Namoli, Lautoka, Dyer began his football journey at Drasa Avenue Primary School before later attending Ba Provincial School where he excelled in school football competitions.

His performances eventually earned him selection into the Fiji national team under legendary German coach Rudi Gutendorf.

Dyer represented Fiji at the 1983 South Pacific Games in Samoa and was also part of the historic Fiji side that defeated English club Newcastle United 3-0 in 1985.

Known for his fearless style of play and leadership qualities, Dyer played for both Nadi and Lautoka during a distinguished football career spanning more than a decade.

In 2020, he was inducted into the Fiji FA Legends Club in recognition of his contribution to football.

“Henry Dyer was not only an outstanding footballer but also a humble and respected individual who gave so much to the development of football in our country,” Mr Patel said.

“He inspired many young footballers and helped shape Fiji football during one of its memorable eras.”

Fiji FA said funeral assistance and support would be provided to Dyer’s family during this difficult time.
