About 500 products are exported to Australia from Fiji each year, says Investment Fiji CEO Kamal Chetty.
Speaking at the Fiji Australia Business Council and Australia Fiji Business Council Joint Forum in Sigatoka on Saturday, he said there were a lot of business opportunities for the two countries for bilateral trade.
“If you look at our export base, Australia is the most diverse market for Fiji and there’s about 500 items that we export to Australia and I think there is growth potential in those areas,” he said.
“If you look at the US which is our largest export market, the base is quite less.
“It is a market that is dominated by water while Australia is now. “Looking at the current figures, it is important to know that there is an opportunity for us to expand on those figures.”
He said Australia’s growing population created a lot of opportunity for Fiji as well.
“There is very strong consumer sentiments in Australia with its urban population continue to grow.
“Very important to know is that the number of households in Australia is expected to grow from $9.2 million to $13.2m by 2041 so that will produce a lot of opportunities for us.
“It’s a very strong market. “There is a lot of potential for us to look as Fijian businesses and we need to be able to monitor these trends to be able to take full advantage of the growth of this very important market.”
